A Florida man has been sentenced after he secretly married three women in separate counties.
On Thursday (July 31), Henry Betsey Jr. was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to felony bigamy.
Betsey's conviction came after one of his wives, Tonya Betsey, discovered his other marriages while searching his name in county records. Tonya found that her husband was legally married to two other women, Michele and Brandy Betsey, and none of them knew about each other.
“He sold the perfect person, when in reality, he was none of those things,” Tonya said in court.
The three women said they met Betsey through various dating apps, including Tinder, Stir, and Match.com. Betsey married Tonya in November 2020, Brandy in February 2022, and Michele just three weeks after meeting her in November 2022.
“He said all the right things,” Brandy testified.
“I had no idea that she was actually still married to him," Michelle said in court.
Prosecutors argued that Betsey's actions were financially motivated. During his sentencing, Betsey apologized to the women, saying, “Ultimately, this is something that I didn’t wish to be part of.” Betsey was ordered to stay off social media and have no contact with the women.
“Do I think he has any remorse? Absolutely not,” Tonya said in a statement.
