A Michigan judge has been removed from her docket after she was allegedly caught making racist and homophobic statements in audio recordings.

According to ABC 7, Oakland County Chief Probate Pro Tem Judge Kathleen Ryan is out of her courtroom after “a complaint regarding internal allegations of unprofessional conduct” was sent to the Judicial Tenure Commission.

The complaint stemmed from audio recordings released by Oakland County Probate Court Administrator Edward Hutton, who said Ryan has been hurling derogatory statements for years during calls during and after work hours.

In one audio recording obtained by ABC 7, Ryan allegedly said: “From England, if you’re a Black from any other country – you’re doing way better. If you’re an American Black person then you’re a f****** lazy piece of s***.”

“I can honestly say that ok I’m not systemically racist – I’m a new racist," Ryan allegedly stated in another recording. "I never was. But now I am because you’re shoving this s*** down my throat making allegations that you don’t know s*** about. You’re telling me who I am and you’ve never even f****** met me. F*** you!”

Hutton also accused the judge of using homophobic slurs about other elected officials, including “You little f*****.”

“A lot of times they were conversations about sexual encounters that she's having with various individuals, I mean, in intimate detail,” Hutton told ABC 7.

Hutton said he's been afraid to speak up about the judge's comments for years.

“I didn't want to lose my job and I didn't want to be in her crosshairs,” Hutton said. “It's such a David and Goliath situation. I don't have the power. I'm not elected. I could get fired tomorrow.”

He started recording the calls because he "felt like it wasn't going to change."

“Nothing's manipulated and it's conversations that I was a part of. It's something that I anticipate at some point I'll probably have to testify to under oath, and I'm absolutely willing to testify to the authenticity of every single one of them [the recordings]," Hutton said.

The court administrator said he sent the recordings to the Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, Oakland County Executive David Coulter, and other public officials on August 22. Ryan was reportedly removed from her docket on August 27.

“There is absolutely no place for harassment of any kind or for racist or homophobic language by anyone at Oakland County, especially by someone the public must be confident will act fairly and impartially. The alleged conduct and abhorrent comments made by Judge Ryan merited her removal from the Probate Court docket pending further investigation. I have confidence that the agencies reviewing this matter will treat it with the seriousness it deserves and will take further action if warranted,” Coulter said in a statement.

Ryan's attorneys Gerald Gleeson and Thomas Cranmer addressed the allegations and her removal from the court, saying "We respect the authority of the Michigan Supreme Court. However, we look forward to vindicating Judge Ryan in the appropriate forum."
